Lasting Powers of Attorney

A Lasting Power of Attorney (LPA) ensures that someone you trust can make decisions on your behalf if you ever can’t. It’s a key part of good planning — one that protects your interests and gives peace of mind to those close to you.

I’ll guide you through setting up LPAs for health, welfare, property or financial affairs, making the process clear, efficient and stress-free.

Why it matters

Why Powers of Attorney Matter

An LPA allows someone you choose to act for you if you lose capacity or simply need support managing your affairs. Without one, even close family members can face difficulties accessing accounts or making vital decisions on your behalf.

My approach

Simple, Supportive and Secure

I’ll explain the different types of LPA — Health & Welfare and Property & Financial Affairs — and help you decide who to appoint. Every document is drafted carefully, registered correctly, and handled with the discretion and respect it deserves.

Two types of LPA

Health & Welfare and Property & Financial Affairs

Most people choose to make both. Each covers different decisions, and each can name the same or different attorneys.

LPA 01

Health & Welfare

Lets your attorneys make decisions about your care and wellbeing.

  • Daily routine — washing, dressing, eating
  • Medical care and treatment
  • Moving into a care home
  • Life-sustaining treatment, if you choose to allow it

Can only be used if you lack the mental capacity to decide for yourself.

LPA 02

Property & Financial Affairs

Lets your attorneys manage your money and property on your behalf.

  • Managing bank and building society accounts
  • Paying bills and collecting pensions or benefits
  • Dealing with investments
  • Selling your home, if needed

Can be used once registered, with your permission — even while you still have capacity.

What if there’s no LPA in place?

If you lose capacity without one, your family may need to apply to the Court of Protection to be appointed as your deputy — a process that is usually slower, more costly and more restrictive than making an LPA now.
